When the Xbox Series X|S was released more than a year ago, these next-generation game consoles brought many exciting new features and hardware features. One of the most notable advancements is the introduction of HDMI 2.1, which allows native 4K gaming with a high dynamic range (HDR) of 120 frames per second. Unfortunately, there are not many choices for mid-size displays that support the latest version of HDMI.

There is no doubt that there are many impressive products in the TV field that support HDMI 2.1, but in general, these huge screens range from 55 inches to 70 inches. For players like me who mainly play games on their desks, a monitor of this size will definitely melt our retina. There was a time when it seemed impossible to find a monitor under 50 inches equipped with all the latest technological innovations. Then a curious crowd design project appeared, which is expected to fill this market population.

Eve Spectrum 4K is a 27-inch IPS display that promises "more powerful" and "no compromise." Since its release in 2020, I have been paying close attention to the product and its marketing slogan. As one of the first companies to promote 4K displays that support HDMI 2.1, many questioning eyes have been trained on Eve to see if they can deliver on their promises. After spending nearly a month testing Eve Spectrum 4K under various conditions, I can confidently say that this gorgeous display is undoubtedly one of the best choices for Xbox Series X or PS5 games.

Bottom line: Eve Spectrum 4K is an excellent display with impressive features designed for the next generation of gaming hardware. The perfect companion for Xbox Series X or PS5.

With a lot of input from the community and its supporters, Eve Spectrum 4K provides customers with some pricing options. For now, you can currently pre-order a 27-inch Eve Spectrum 4K monitor through the company's official website, starting at $799. It is worth noting that this entry price does not include the bracket, which can be purchased separately for $99. People who book now expect orders to start shipping in January 2022.

After unpacking the Eve Spectrum 4K display box, the product's truly high-quality build quality and very stylish beauty immediately appeared. Although quite trivial in the grand scheme, even the packaging of this device is very detail-oriented. After removing the monitor from the luxurious enclosure, I quickly noticed the impressive weight of the Eve Spectrum 4K. It doesn't feel bulky anyway, but from the slim optional stand to the fairly thin case, everything about this monitor feels sturdy and sturdy.

As a strong supporter of minimal hardware design, I can't help but marvel at the size of this monitor. Since the borders on the edges of the screen are the smallest, the 27-inch panel really pops up. There are also no unnecessary logos or brands on the front of the display, which helps to make the presentation more focused. The adjustable rail of the stand can easily slide up and down while locking its position firmly in place in some way. Every element of Eve Spectrum 4K has been carefully crafted to minimize the footprint. I really like the way this monitor fits seamlessly into my work space.

Although an elegant presentation is certainly an ideal feature of any decent gaming monitor, the overall image quality is ultimately the most important. As far as Eve Spectrum 4K is concerned, this stunning IPS oxide LCD display provides brilliant colors and key game-centric video features. This monitor has native 4K resolution, HDR600, 10-bit color depth and a frame rate of up to 120 FPS on my Xbox Series X, completely changing my game console gaming experience. Thanks to HDMI 2.1 support, games like Grounded have a series of vivid environments that explode with exquisite details, while competitive multiplayer games like Halo Infinite feel smoother than ever.

Eve Spectrum 4K is specifically designed to provide the ultimate display effect for games, and also provides a series of wonderful customization options to help players make the most of the game. In addition to NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support and an overload mode that provides 1 millisecond response time, Eve Spectrum 4K also provides users with a wide range of on-board options. From the integrated FPS counter to the ability to change the RGB color of the front LED lights, this monitor fundamentally takes core gamers into consideration.

What is commendable is the number of input options provided by this monitor. Eve Spectrum 4K has two HDMI 2.1 inputs, one DisplayPort 1.4, one USB-C, two USB-A, etc. It is versatile enough to be used as a standalone monitor for console/PC workstations (such as my own). Combined with my current LG 27-inch UK850, I can easily connect four game consoles and run a dual monitor setup from my PC. However, even in the test where I only used the Eve Spectrum 4K monitor, I was able to connect to my Xbox Series X, PS5, PC, and even my Surface Duo 2 at the same time. In most cases, you don't have to worry about swapping cables or assigning inputs at all.

In theory, Eve Spectrum 4K basically has everything that people want for modern gaming monitors. Unfortunately, a special feature makes me very at a loss. The HDR of the display and the forced global dimming associated with it can easily become the most obvious flaw in other extraordinary packages.

From a technical point of view, the Eve Spectrum 4K display supports HDR 600. In theory, this should provide a higher contrast between extremely dark and aurora. When it comes to brighter sequences, such as walking in Grand Theft Auto V during the day, the display does a good job and provides the expected HDR experience. Unfortunately, the global dimming required to use HDR for this display completely eliminates any darker scenes.

As someone who often plays horror games and hardcore role-playing games like Dark Souls, this cannot be ignored.

As someone who often plays horror games and hardcore role-playing games like Dark Souls, this cannot be ignored. The vertical glow of the global dimming position will be activated harshly with any color or light. When playing "Fatal Frame: Blackwater Girl", even the subtitles can cause serious reactions, introducing obvious white light into the originally completely dark moments. After talking with Eve representatives on this issue, it sounds like the team is investigating the possibility of allowing users to disable global dimming in future firmware updates, but for now, I just choose to turn off HDR.

My only criticism is the obvious delay when switching inputs. Switching from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 or DisplayPort using the controls on the back of the monitor usually takes more than 5 seconds for the monitor to record input changes. This slow transition will certainly not spoil the grand plan, but it is worth mentioning if it will serve as your primary display. When the game is switched from SDR to HDR when it starts, it is also particularly noticeable on Xbox Series X.

For now, there are not many choices of monitors that support HDMI 2.1, especially if you are looking for a monitor that fits a normal desktop. However, if you are specifically buying a monitor in the market that is designed to take advantage of the full capabilities of Xbox Series X or PS5, there are several options worth considering.

The first is Acer Nitro XV282K. This 28-inch ISP monitor has many of the same features as Eve Spectrum 4K, including two HDMI 2.1 inputs and 4K gaming with 120 FPS HDR, but there are no global dimming issues related to Spectrum's HDR. Acer Nitro may only support HDR400, which means that the overall contrast is not so impressive, but considering that I completely turned off HDR on the display, this is an option to consider whether HDR is a must. If you can swallow the price tag of $1,200.

Another strong competitor, if real estate is not a big issue, is the AORUS FV43U monitor. The display is 43 inches, very large, and essentially similar to a TV. However, in terms of overall feature set and size, this $1,000 HDMI 2.1 monitor is undoubtedly worth the money.

The design of the Eve Spectrum 4K 27-inch display obviously takes into account the next generation of consoles and PC games. If you, like me, have been waiting for a series of medium-sized displays that utilize the advanced technology provided by HDMI 2.1, then this is undoubtedly one of the best choices on the market right now. Like many similar displays currently available, the price tag is relatively high, but in my experience with Eve Spectrum 4K, its value has been confidently proven.

Overall, Eve Spectrum 4K is a gorgeous, well-designed display that can provide support in almost every possible way. Playing games on my Xbox Series X has never been so good or feels so good. The slim profile, high-quality build quality, and bright, beautiful IPS panel provide a product that is stunning whether it is closed or opened. Eve Spectrum 4K is a worthy addition to any office workspace, especially if you want a monitor that can perform very well on both PC and current console games.

Eve Spectrum 4K is a well-made HDMI 2.1 monitor that anyone who plays games on Xbox Series X, PS5 or PC will undoubtedly like it. When it comes to the HDR function of this monitor, I certainly have my complaints, but even if the high dynamic range is disabled, the colors are full of vitality and richness. At this price, in this size, there is no better choice.

Bottom line: The Eve Spectrum 4K display brings the power of HDMI 2.1 gaming to a more reasonable-sized screen. With a stunning display and stylish shape, this impressive display is worth the money.
