"We only need one chance to climb everything on the ski slopes." Located between the ski slopes of Collingwood Ski Resort in Ontario, this A-frame cabin is not easy in the severe winter. thing. "We did it before Christmas because the slope was closed for a day. We packed this 53-foot trailer full of everything — bedding, pillows, decorations, throwing things, books — so it can be used by beauty equipment Drag up the hill," recalled Natalie Hawkins, designer of Sarah Richardson Design. The client, a couple with three children who live in nearby Toronto most of the year, wanted a place to host their family and friends after a day of hiking.

"This is a de facto temporary center," said Hodgins, who worked closely with her designer counterpart Shannon Morrison and Murakami Design's architect and principal Lei Murakami. Now guests can ski into the mud room (equipped with custom cabinets and concealed convenient ski boot dryer) before entering the large spacious room. The living room, dining room and kitchen are combined in an open plan. The long space is lined with floor-to-ceiling windows, forming a forest of ash and pine trees. A freestanding double-sided fireplace separates the comfortable lounge and one end of the bar.

“When there are only family members, there are more private spaces to sit and hang out,” Hodgins points out, “but when you’re entertaining, it’s very open and everyone can hang out.” Thanks to the smooth transition of Murakami’s floor plan, Hawkins And Morrison insisted on using the same gray stone surface, light gray walls and black metal details, which all add weight to the originally airy room. "They demand very clean lines, no fuss," said the designer. "Everything is very monochrome and simple because it is surrounded by trees, ski hills and woods. We want the house to feel very natural-it belongs to where it is."

"They have the ultimate privacy: once the elevator closes at night, there is no one on the mountain."

After skiing, the family and guests can return to the seven bedrooms at home, the layout of the bedrooms is as warm and simple as the public areas. Three bedrooms are located on the top floor, including a master suite overlooking the ski slopes, while bunk beds in the basement are stacked with revolving doors for friends and their children. "[Customers] want something modern but comfortable and family-friendly," Hawkins said. "Guests will always feel at home."
