Allison Lorenzen of Denver spent a lot of time recovering from the intertwined music and romantic turmoil, and in the process established her first personal outing, Tender. In "Chalk", light and darkness coexist-the remnants of her overcoming still linger on the periphery. The flickering piano keys gleamed in her rising chorus-like singing, supported by a low-end fuzzy foundation from Denvery's Madeleine Johnston ("Heaven Metal" costume midwife). At the end of the song, she looked out in a new direction, a chance to start again: "How about the second chance?"
