SALT LAKE CITY — A 35-year-old man is in custody after an overnight standoff with Salt Lake City police Saturday morning.
According to the SLC PD press release, Andrew Taylor, 35, allegedly barricaded himself at a residence after a fight with a female victim near 1020 East 400 South at approximately 11:50 p.m. Friday.
A 9-1-1 caller told dispatchers that it sounded like a fight was happening at the address, and when SLC PD officers arrived, they found signs of a fight around the residence.
“Officers confirmed the female victim left the area before they arrived,” according to the press release. After learning Taylor’s identity, police discovered he has previous charges of violating protective orders and domestic violence.
“Officers began talking with the suspect, but he refused to comply,” continued the release. “While speaking with officers, the suspect indicated he had access to a firearm.”
According to arrest documents, Taylor also made statements indicating he had a bomb and would not leave ” except in a body bag.”

At approximately 2:44 a.m. Saturday, police called in the SLC PD SWAT and crisis negotiators to help, according to the press release. Officers also obtained a search warrant for the residence.
“SWAT and crisis negotiators continued for several hours to communicate with the suspect, but he still refused [to comply],” according to the release.
At approximately 6:13 a.m., SWAT entered the residence and took Taylor into custody without further issue.
According to police, Taylor was released from jail Wednesday from an earlier domestic violence case where he promised to have no contact with the victim and commit no more criminal offenses.
In the arrest documents, Taylor was inside the residence where he damaged the property by breaking a window, a wooden bed frame, and a dresser in the bedroom.
Taylor was booked into the Salt Lake County jail for violation of protective order, criminal mischief around $500 to $1,500 in damages, and construction of justice.
