A man attempting to leave a Bunnings carpark with a huge load of timber sticking out of his car window has been criticised for his "lack of common sense".

A man has been spotted leaving a New Zealand Bunnings store with a huge load of timber sticking out of his car window.

A video posted on TikTok shows a white Holden Cruze navigating its way out of the carpark with more than one metre of timber sticking out of the back window.

The person filming the video seemed highly amused as he called out to the driver.

"What the f***. Brother, what are you doing?" the man who posted the TikTok said.

The man then posted another video of him confronting the driver as the car made its way towards the carpark exit.

"Nah mate, nah brother, you gotta pull over mate," he is heard saying.

"You gotta pull over. Bro, you can't drive like that brother."

"It's ok?" the man asks. "A little, a little…"

#Bunnings why would you let someone leave like this 😂

The man filming the video is adamant: "You've got to take it off".

Social media users were left stunned by the incident, praising the man for confronting his idiocy.

"The man bro possibly saved someone's life," one person commented.

"Good on ya for saying something, the fact that he thought it was all good to drive omg," another wrote.

"The audacity of him to drive out like he's the only car on the road."

One person who claimed they worked at Bunnings insisted staff wouldn't have let the man leave like that.

"I work at Bunnings. No, we won't let people leave like this, the timber yard can only load vehicles that are safe to carry what we are selling."

Other social media users responded in amusement.

"That's one way to get rid of cyclists on the road," one person commented.

"His car is worth more than the common sense in his pocket," another said.

"He's social distancing," a third joked.

A Bunnings spokesperson told Sky News Australia team members do their best to ensure customers leave the store safely.

"The safety of our team and customers is our number one priority, and we have extensive training and guidelines in place to make sure everyone leaves our stores safely," Bunnings NZ Area Manager Luke Foxley said in a statement.

"Our team do their best to work with customers to make sure that loads are safe before they leave our stores.

"This includes materials handling training and resources for team, as well as assisting customers to split loads to make sure that they are a safe weight and safely secured, without excessive overhang."
