Four people who stole high-end purses from Neiman Marcus at Fashion Island this week tossed several handbags out the window of a white BMW along the 73 toll road as police pursued the suspects, authorities said Friday.

Officers recovered $58,000 worth of stolen merchandise both from the suspects’ car and along the pursuit route, which included the 405 Freeway, Newport Beach police Sgt. Josh Vincelet said.

Two suspects are adults: Dominic Deshaun Burrell, 20, of Lancaster and Brionnah Chanell Riley, 20, of Palmdale. The other two were identified only as minors from Los Angeles.

All four were arrested on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony offense, Vincelet said. Burrell and Riley also are accused of child endangerment. And Burrell is accused of reckless evading of a peace officer.

Police were called to the mall at 601 Newport Center Drive around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday on a report of six people stealing purses from the Chanel area in Neiman Marcus, Vincelet said. The suspects got into two vehicles, a red sedan and a white BMW, and fled.

As officers arrived, they found the white BMW and attempted to pull it over, but the driver kept going and police pursued the car into Westminster with help from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol, Vincelet said.

The BMW exited at Bolsa Avenue and the suspects jumped out and ran, but all four were caught a short time later, the spokesman said.

A search of the car netted evidence believed to link the group to similar crimes elsewhere, including Los Angeles. The suspects “are a part of a larger retail theft ring that targets high-end stores all over Southern Californa,” Vincelet said.

Burrell was released from jail Thursday and Riley was released Friday, each after posting bond, according to inmate records. Their first court appearances have not been set.

Detectives were continuing to search for the red sedan and its occupants as of Friday.
